Let’s hound these miscreants and bring them to book

Readers will surely be thankful for the article titled, "Disgruntled SLFPers seek justice their way", appearing in The Sunday Times of October 7 which gives the shocking news of two Provincial Council Ministers of the Western Province who have been found guilty by the Disciplinary Committee of the party for fraud, forgery and smuggling of persons. These are serious crimes, which if brought before courts, will receive a jail sentence and a fine.

Strangely, it would appear that this fraud and forgery have not been taken up either by the Police or the Bribery Commissioner, as it may not have been reported to them. If so, let the news item and this letter serve as a complaint for them to pursue legal action.

However, as stated in the article, disgruntled SLFPers had inquired from the Party Secretary, Maithripala Sirisena, Minister, about the action to be taken, to which he had bluntly replied, “This has no importance to me”. This shows the utter indifference of the Secretary of the governing party.

If indiscipline is not his concern, may we, the voters ask – Whose concern is it? It is therefore no wonder that miscreants are nurtured and looked after to carry, on with the blessings of the party. President Mahinda Rajapaksa should take immediate action to weed out undesirables to prove his sincerity in running this country with honest men.

The only honourable action which the two accused provincial councillors could do is to resign. Readers/voters should relentlessly pursue this matter for the sake of the hard driven voter, who has no option but to vote on promises made and not kept.
