New Country Director for UNIDO Sri Lanka

Veteran businessman, industrialist and chamber leader Nawaz Rajabdeen

Veteran businessman, industrialist and chamber leader Nawaz Rajabdeen has been appointed as National Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) - national focal point in Sri Lanka, his office announced.

UNIDO is one of the main partner organizations of Ministry of Industrial Development in developing policies, strategies and implementing programmes towards overall industrial development in the country.

Rajabdeen, in taking over the UNIDO office in Sri Lanka, will add weight to pro-business and pro-industry type of policies and strategies to be executed in the overall industrial development efforts in Sri Lanka. “Mr Rajabdeen’s new responsibility will also include developing a strategy framework of cooperation supported by a rigorous work programme, a comprehensive monitoring mechanism and strong partnerships with stakeholders with emphasis on the business community,” the statemenr from his office said.

Rajabdeen is currently the President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), and also the Vice President of World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has been in the Chamber movement for over three decades and has served as a member of the UNIDO Steering Committee before taking over as the Country Director.
