Serendib Horticulture wins plant bio-tech tender

Serendib Horticulture Technologies Pvt. Ltd, the leading plant biotechnology company in Sri Lanka, has won an international tender to do a feasibility study on the new Regional Biotechnology Centre coming up in Qatar. This Centre will be the biggest in the Gulf region.

Serendib said among other applicants were prestigious companies from around the world. The study will consist of genetic engineering and molecular biology research in the region, recommendations for the Biotechnology Centre for such research, the application of such research for commercialization, capacity building, genetically modified organisms and related issues, bio safety frame work recommendations, etc. The study which will commence in November will be completed in six months.

The consultancy team will be led by its Chairman/CEO, Dilip de Silva and will consist of eminent scientists from the University of Peradeniya, Michigan State University, Northern Iowa State University and the company’s own experts.
