Arbour visits Welikada Prison

UN Human Rights Commissioner Louise Arbour met five Tamil detainees when she visited the Welikada Remand Prison in Colombo last afternoon along with a team of UN officials.

Of the 86 detainees there, five had been chosen to tell her of their grievances, Prisons officials said. On Wednesday the prisoners began a fast insisting that Ms. Arbour should visit them to see for herself their living conditions. After her visit the detainees later called off the fast
