Wegapitiya wins prestigious entrepreneurship award

Laugfs Holdings Chairman W.K.H.Wegapitiya was recently presented the “Asian Grid Leadership Award” for “Excellence in Entrepreneurship-2007” at the Ninth Annual Convention on Leadership -2007 held in Mumbai, India.

The Nehru Singh Foundation of India annually selects and honours individuals from different Asian countries in different fields who has contributed for leveraging human potential and achieving excellence in different fields.

Wegapitiya was the only Sri Lankan nominated and selected this time to receive this prestigious award in this year. He was conferred the “Asian Leadership Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship” for excellent achievement in building a business from scratch.

At the awards ceremony inWegapitiya made a presentation on the topic of “Building a business from Scratch” – “Leadership Lessons for Young managers” explaining his experience of building “Laugfs” from scratch. Wegapitiya was also invited as a guest of honour at the award ceremony of “Leaders of Tomorrow” organized by the Dr. P.N.Singh Foundation of Mumbai. Among others who were honoured at the Asian Grid Leadership Award were senior figures in the Indian business world such as Subir Raha, former chairman of Oil and Natural Gas Authority of India (ONGC) who was once selected as the CEO of the decade, Prof. Y.K. Bhushan, head of the ICFAI Business School and Prof. P.V.Ramana, Chairman of ITM Trust of Mumbai.
