Jayasingha holds sway at Janashakthi squash

S. Guruge turned in a smart performance to beat beat S. Jayawardena 9/0,9/0,9/0 in the Girls Under 19 first round game at the Janashakthi Open Squash Championships at the Tamil Union in Wanathamulla yesterday.

The men’s over 35 first round game between P.D.Jayasingha and Wijeweera attracted a lot of attention at the way the players moved around the court. Ultimately P.D. Jayasingha overcame a hot challenge by Wijeweera and triumphed at 8/10, 9/1, 7/9, 9/4, 9/0.

The competition will be continued until next Saturday. The contest is bound to gather momentum as the final rounds draw closer. Today’s squash will commence at 3 p.m.
