Help little girl fulfil her big dreams

By Suranga Rajanayaka

With Chidlren’s Day falling tomorrow, we highlight the plight of a differently abled girl who has gained admission to a top school in Kandy but due to her handicap and her parents’ financial limitations, faces an uncertain future. Chandima Ariyaratne of Udagama in Gampola was happy when her daughter Sadeesha got through the grade 5 examination and gained admission to Girls’ High School, Kandy.

“We are pleased to inform you that your daughter has been selected for admission to our school. Please call over with relevant documents to meet the principal,” the letter that brought much happiness to Sadeesha and her parents said.

Sadeesha’s problems began when she was in grade four and found she had difficulty in walking. The parents in desperation took her to many specialists after finding the necessary finances with much difficulty. Sadeesha’s limbs are lifeless below her ankles. Although she has gained entrance to a top school her mother’s cry is, “How can we carry this girl about 20 miles to school daily? The doctors told us that she could be cured in India but at a cost of about 15 lakhs. “We don’t have that kind of money.”

Anyone who wishes to contribute could do so to Sadeesha Divanthi Perera, Peoples bank, Gampola branch, AC no. 018-2-001-6-8256068.
