A rare gesture that should not go unnoticed

I am a retired public servant who served in a Government Department for about 37 years. As a retired senior citizen I called over at the Dehiwala Divisional Secretariat to obtain a set of holiday railway warrants to go on a holiday up-country.

I was pleasantly surprised by the courteous and polite manner I was welcomed and my requirement was attended to by officials working at this government office.

I wish to place on record that it was a rare opportunity where the services rendered by a retired government servant were recognized and treated with dignity and honour in a government office. This should be an eye-opener to other government departments to follow.

Last, but not least, I express my sincere thanks to the Officer-in-Charge of the Section, the entire staff for the prompt attention given by them to me.

By L.C. De Alwis, Dehiwala.
