Kavin takes SSC squash title

Kavin Jayawardena took the SSC men’s open squash title defeating Anura Hewage at 9-7, 8-9, 9-7, 9-7 at club’s court yesterday.

Though the scores suggest otherwise, the game was a close one with Anura never letting Kavin run away with the game at any stage. The women’s title was taken by Nirasha Guruge when she beat Randima Ranaweera by 9-0, 9-4, 9-2 in a one-sided final.

In the under 19 boys final it was Milruk Soysa of Stafford International who took the title beating his school mate Chakranga Rajapakse at 9-5, 4-9, 9-2, 9-4.

Royalist Dilshan Senaratne was the winner of the under seventeen title as in another tight final. Dilshan beat Kasun Weerasuriya of the same institution at 10-8, 9-1, 8-10, 8-9, 9-0.

Ashini Weerasinghe of Sirimavo Bandaranaike BMV won the Girls under 19 title. Ashini beat Imasha de Silva also of SBBMV at 9-6,4-9,9-3,9-5.

In the Girls’s under 17 final it was Randima Ranaweera of Sirimavo Bandaranaike BMV who lost the women’s open final who took title beating Ashini Weerasinghe of the same school at 9-6, 9-3, 9-1.

The Junior National will be held on 15 and 16 September at the Tamil Union squash courts.
