Taking to water like a Trinitian

By Aubrey Kuruppu

Over the last couple of years, swimming at Trinity has really taken off. This year has been a particularly good one for the swimmers who have come out on top at every meet they competed.

Dilina Dissanayake (Capt.) and the Trinity swimming team.

Starting off with the pentathlon swimming championship at the Sugathadasa Aquatic facility, they went on to win the short course competition at the Hillwood Pool by a margin of 55 points. Seven new records were established by the Trinitians.

They continued their winning ways by coming out on top at the Age group swimming meet held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium pool. The 416 points obtained by the school was a new record. There were also six new best achievements.

The Central Province championship worked off at the Peradeniya Campus pool saw the school win the championship with a total of 523 points.

At the recent Festival games, too, Trinity became the champions thanks to the efforts of their captain Dilina Dissanayake, Heshan Unamboowe, Chamindu Wickremasinghe and L.O. Senaratne, all of whom were selected to tour Pakistan.

Coach U.H. Pemlath has been responsible for this upsurge in swimming talent. Prabath Senanayake, the earlier master in charge, was a tower of strength, while the present incumbent A.P. Navaratne seems to be doing well.
