EFC launches the Association for Dispute and Conflict Resolution

The setting up of ADCOR is the result of a series of programmes which were conducted under an European Union project aimed at facilitating conditions for social dialogue in the public and private sectors.

The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), recently launched the ‘Association for Dispute and Conflict Resolution (ADCR)’ at the Trans Asia Hotel. The chief guest at the launch was Athauda Seneviratne, Minister of Labour Relations.

This initiative marks a progressive development in terms of industrial relations.

The setting up of ADCOR is the result of a series of programmes which were conducted under an European Union project aimed at facilitating conditions for social dialogue in the public and private sectors.

The ADCOR has at its core a desire for employees and employers to come together to share their experiences and to find a means by which they could all achieve a better quality of life with sustainability and security in the long term.

Its vision is to work towards achieving national unity and development through a dialogue between the social partners. ADCR has been set up as a Trust created by the EFC and NATURE. The trust was set up to promote true social partnership between employers and employees. It is intended to have regular dialogue on issues of mutual interest, resolve, employment related conflict, to make representations to relevant authorities including governments on all matters affecting employment.

The ADCR has a permanent secretariat headed by the director-R Suresh Chandra who is also an experienced lawyer and a veteran in the field of industrial relations.

The ILO has also given its support both technically and financially for the initiative and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) which was a partner of the original project is also committed to assisting the ADCR.
