Ads on 3 wheels

A Colombo firm is tapping hundreds of trishaws as a new medium for advertising in addition to raising the lifestyles of this sector.

Dr Samila de Silva, CEO of Rolling Wheels, said the company has developed advertising billboards on trishaws approved by Police and RMV and has so far targeted 3,000 owner-driven vehicles under this project.

“We hope to increase this to 20,000-30,000 in the city of Colombo as the project gets cracking,” he said adding that they hope to launch the first ad-carrying trishaws in around November.

There are over a million trishaws in Sri Lanka.

He said the company planned to offer insurance policies and other benefits to trishaw owners and their families as part of the scheme to uplift this sector.
