Lanka Bell showers Mawanella with gifts

Bells chimed on the streets of Mawanella recently as this town on the A1 highway to Kandy welcomed the 50th Business Office of Lanka Bell, Sri Lanka's leading CDMA service provider. The milestone was celebrated by a literal shower of gifts with Lanka Bell releasing 50 helium balloons to mark the occasion. Each balloon had a gift tag attached to it, entitling finders to redeem them for gifts at the new office, the company said.

The new office

Adding grandeur to the traditional 'Bell Walk' that precedes the opening of Lanka Bell's business offices, a majestic elephant, dancers, drummers and costumed 'nilames' led the procession of 100 bell-ringing staffers of Lanka Bell through the streets of Mawanella. A colourful street drama connected with the opening of the new office toured the outlying villages for two days to create awareness of the arrival of the CDMA pioneer in Mawanella.

Speaking at the opening of the new office, Lanka Bell Managing Director Suren Goonewardene said Mawanella, Lanka Bell's fourth business office in the Sabaragamuwa Province, had been chosen because of its commercial potential and its location."Lanka Bell is rapidly increasing its network of business offices as part of our long-term commitment to continuously enhance customer convenience and access to our services," he said.

"It is also essential to our efforts to take affordable hi-tech telephony to the masses." "As the country's only 100 per cent Sri Lankan owned telephone company, Lanka Bell has been working diligently to provide the lowest call charges in the local market to customers with varying needs across the country," Goonewardene added.

These business offices play a key role in taking CDMA telephony to rural areas and provide customers with convenient locations for bill settlement, technical assistance, and customer service. Lanka Bell's business offices have established a strong presence in 22 districts to date, and more such offices are to be opened in the course of this year.
