Maris Stella nudges Royal to retain title

Maris Stella College Negombo nudged Royal to win the second annual track and field Quadrangular between Maris Stella, Royal, Trinity and S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia at Maris Stella grounds, Negombo yesterday. This Metros 2007 Championship was organized by Maristonian Sports Association and was conducted by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association.

Royal coached by Brig. Parry Liyanage gave an excellent performance to emerge worthy runners-up again with 146 points to 126 points. Trinity athletes were third with 86 pts. and S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia collected 48 points.

Major General Palitha Fernando, President of Sri Lanka Athletic Association, was the Chief Guest. First Marathon winner in Europe K.A Karunaratne and gold medal winner Asiad, Sugath Tillekeratna were special invitees.

Individual Age Group Champions:- U-11 - T.B.Y.I. Pitawela (Trinity), U-13 - Dilum Fernando (Trinity), U-15 - Shehan Perera (Royal), U-17, Merl Chandana (Maris Stella), U-19 - Sajith Nadeeshan (Maris Stella), Best Athlete of the meet:- Picked by SLAA Judges - Sajith Nadeeshan (Maris Stella).
