Let us band together in our Motherland

Motherland is a country into which you are born –
With which you have a strong, emotional bond –
Related with your birth –
Your growing up –
Your mid-life upheavals and final maturity.
A Motherland belongs to all born –
Within its borders –
She is no step-mother –
Who makes one feel different from another –
To each she gives equal rights and privileges –
Making each a part of herself.
The rivers that run through her valleys –
Must quench the thirst of all her children.
The fruits of her land are to pluck and share –
The trees, mountains and the sea –
That surrounds her gave our ancestors –
Their first breath and received their last.
Today the children of our motherland –
Stand at cross-purposes
Because greed stands at her helm.
Pirates who grab goodies and positions –
Hiding under tiger stripes –
Or a lion’s mane.
There is no one to care for the starving people –
Or the landless who are refugees –
In their own Motherland.
Let all faiths band together to pray -
“That strangers become, once again
Brothers and sisters holding hands.”
As we once did –
In our Motherland.
Not so long ago.
