Former Trincomalee Government Agent M.D.A.G. Rodrigo has been brought back from retirement as the new Acting Chief Secretary of the Eastern Province to replace the assassinated Chief Secretary Herath Abeydeera, who was gunned down in his office on the evening of July 16.

After the shocking assassination within the Tricomalee High Security Zone in the Inner Harbour Road, all Government establishments have been directed to have only one entry and exit point for each office and all such offices are provided with armed guards.

Meanwhile Eastern Province Governor Admiral Mohan Wijewickrema has called upon all public servants in the East to declare their assets, following the recent nabbing of a Ministry Secretary there while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000.

Education Ministry Secretary L.C. Siriwardena, a former Government Agent was arrested by the officials of the Bribery and Corruption Commission while allegedly accepting the bribe.

The Governor also appears to be a miracle worker in that while there were massive cuts imposed on all government institutions on capital expenditure, he has managed to obtain at least five new vehicles for his top bureaucrats.
