Promoting community-based tourism

A large number of local professionals, volunteers and lovers of tourism have been invited to take part in a state-cum-civil society initiative to develop tourism, according to a Tourism Ministry statement.

A structure under the theme ‘Advisory panels’ was created by the Tourism Ministry focusing on the vital facets of tourism to be the platform for those professionals, volunteers and interested citizens to join hands with us in promoting quality tourism. One such advisory panel will look into matters such as how best tourism here could get the support of Community Based Tourism (CBT) projects, to identify the existing and future CBT projects and what kind of assistance should be provided to those CBT projects to enhance their contribution to the tourism industry.

The panel had its first meeting in Colombo in association with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.
