New look for Super Chimes

'Super Chimes' the popular band of Annesley Malawana has given a new look with the introduction of two young guys to handle their western part of the music. 'We were branded as an oriental band since people always requested Sinhala songs of the Moonstones, Golden Chimes and Super Golden Chimes wherever we performed. I always wanted to add a Western Music part to my band so that we can play for all dances and other gigs' Annesley said.

'We did this same change to the Moonstones and Super Golden Chimes in the 70's and these bands were much sought after for dances during their era' he added.

Moonstones and Super Golden Chimes played and sang the best of English and Sinhala Pop of the 70's. The Super Chimes too have the same advantage with Annesley singing the Sinhala pops and the two new members taking charge of the English songs of 60's, 70's and 80's.

Annesley who is also a showman, who was instrumental in organizing the first Stars of 70's Concert in 1997 followed up by 'Annesley and Indrani' in Concert and the two re-union concerts of the Super Golden Chimes in 2003 and 2004.

Annesley also organized a tour to USA and Canada for the Super Golden Chimes in 2005. In 2006, he presented the Stars of 70's show in Canada with the Super Chimes. Last year he achieved the impossible by bringing together the three groups he represented, namely the Moon Stones, the Super Golden Chimes and Super Chimes on one stage with a concert titled 'Rewing' which was a sell out. He also released his latest Album titled Thotiya under Torana label on this day.

With 40 years of experience behind him Annesley, will guide his band The Super Chimes to greater heights in the future. The Super Chimes comprises of Annesley on main Vocals, Channa Athalage llead guitar, Dimantha Seneviratne - keyboards, Jagath Kulasinghe - drums and vocals, Prashan Fernando who plays keyboards and guitar and English Vocals, Gihan Shalinda on bass and English vocals.
