Too many teledramas

A disgusted viewer from Colombo writes...

I think there are too many teledramas currently on all TV channels. Prime time from 7.00-10.00pm is almost entirely devoted to teledramas, apart from the news telecast. The majority of there teledramas are sub-standard and boring, dealing with petty family squabbles and love affairs. People become rather narrow-minded, watching these programmes all seven days a week. Feature programmes like 'Atapattama' are more popular than these teledramas.

Also Swarnavahini should be thanked for telecasting programmes like ‘Salanhathe’, ‘Dutu Nudutu’, ‘Grange Dige’ which are both educative and entertaining. There is a huge cry over Indian teledramas these days, but I think people find watching these at least a bit of a difference.

Some yours ago, Rupavahini used to telecast programmes like "Oshin", "Robin Hood" and "Kung fu" dubbed in Sinhala or with sub titles, which were enjoyed by children and adults alike. But now, there in only a glut of locally made teledrams. It's difficult to select the few good teledrams, from among at least fifty that in shown per week on all channels. I think it's unfair of the government to tax foreign programmes and force people to watch the sub-standard teledramas.
