Why I like to go to
the beach
Under 8 years
The beach is one of my favourite places. I have been to the beach many times. I love the sea, the cool breeze and the blue waves and I enjoy splashing about in the water. I also make sand castles with my sisters.
Whenever I go to the beach, I always have a tasty ice-cream to eat and a new kite to fly. The games we play are really fun. At the end of the day we always watch the beautiful sunset. I really love my visits to the beach.

Street-boys
Grinning smugly
As if they've just won the World Cup
Trotting along impishly
They show off their
ice-cream, holding it up,
Knowingly
They drop blobs of their new found treasure
Quite upsettingly
The drops fall on the paving hither and thither.
Licking greedily
They treasure every moment, sip in the taste,
As they watch passers by
Buying ornaments and clothes
They wonder, how many
ice-creams
You could have bought for that money…
What a waste!

My oldest living relative
9 – 11 years
My oldest living relative is my great grand-mother. She is 92 years old. She is my mother's grandmother and she lives with us.
She is a very beautiful and quiet lady. She can speak all three languages, Tamil, Sinhala and English fluently. Though she is 92 years old, her eyesight and hearing are very good.
She likes to read books and papers. She tells us many stories and sings songs when she puts us to sleep. She has a very beautiful voice and she can play any musical instrument, especially the mouth organ.
My grandmother and mother have learnt many things from her. Even I learnt many things from her.
Her hair is grey. She is so fair in complexion. I like to look at her and admire her. I am very proud of my great grandmother. She solves many of our family problems.
We all love and respect our great grandmother because she is the oldest member in our family

I like to be Sindbad
12 – 14 years
‘Sindbad the Sailor’ is one of the interesting books I have read. To me, Sindbad is a hero and I admire his character a lot. If I get a chance I would like to be Sindbad.
Sindbad enjoys his life going on voyages to faraway countries. He spends several days sailing in the sea. Unexpectedly he has to face lots of hardships and difficulties. But he overcomes all those troubles successfully.
Ultimately he finds a treasure and he returns to his motherland as a very rich man. But he is not proud of his wealth. He understands the sorrow of the poor people. So he distributes his wealth among poor people. This kind-hearted, brave, young man believes in God a lot. He wishes God to be in his heart, at every moment. Sindbad is a modest man. He does not forget to treat his friends. He makes the opportunity for his friends to join him on his voyages.
I also like to get exciting experiences everyday and to spend my life helping others.
