Beauty of Brussels

Sri Lankan artisans and craftspeople have been second to none in the world of quality products. Andrea Boekel, who steered a village-labour revolution in the early nineties has weathered difficult business conditions throughout the years and though now resident overseas, still keeps her Brussels lace movement alive.

An exhibition and sale of a limited collection of gorgeous Brussels Lace embellished needlework will be held on Saturday July 21 at No. 16, Kinross Avenue, Colombo 4. On display and sale will be exquisitely embroidered shadow work, table toppers, table runners and doillies.

Prettily adorned with frothy Brussels Lace, these pieces are each a work of art . Every item has hours of labour going into its production, yet the prices are surprisingly reasonable.

Most of the implements used to make the lace are imported from Europe and despite the high cost associated with this, Andrea has been determined to make her products affordable. As such, the price range will be within reach of everyone.

Another unique feature of this sale will be a limited collection of dazzling freshwater pearl jewellery. Gorgeous necklaces and earrings in elegant designs will be available at affordable prices. Freshwater pearl jewellery has taken the world by storm because of the unique features of the pearl itself.

Each pearl has its own distinct shape and is created by the hand of nature, unlike the cultured pearl where man intervenes.
The lustre and colour of this kind of pearl makes each piece a truly treasured item.
