Ceylinco Diabetes launches diet clinic for weight watchers

A special diet clinic offering expert assessment, diagnostics, advice and follow up has been launched by the Ceylinco Diabetes Centre for health-conscious families and individuals, the company said.

Intended for people who are overweight, at risk of developing disease due to obesity and family history or are trying to adopt a healthy diet, the clinic provides a physical examination by a doctor, an assessment of each individual's condition, tests such as Fasting Blood Glucose (FBS) and Lipid Profile, and two sessions with a professional dietician for expert guidance in formulating a suitable diet, it said in a statement.

The head-to-toe evaluation by the doctors at the Centre includes an assessment of height, weight and body mass index (BMI), pulse and blood pressure reading as well as abdominal examination and testing of reflexes, the Centre's Senior Medical Officer Dr. Samanthi De Silva said.

"This clinic is meant for health conscious men and women who would like to adopt a healthy life style thereby preventing many chronic diseases that are prevalent nowadays. Even diabetics could benefit from having a formal session with the qualified Dietician or the Nutritionist with basic biochemical tests, because appropriate dietary advice plays a significant role in this self managed condition," she said, according to the statement.

Each individual who obtains an appointment at the diet clinic is given a detailed report based on the doctor's assessment and the results of the diagnostic tests, and is provided with two consultations six weeks apart, with a dietician.
