Indian experts on disaster recovery plans

These days, the list of potentially business –disrupting events seems almost endless. Therefore business continuity and disaster recovery plans are essential to tackle computer viruses, power blackouts, natural disasters and even terrorist activities.

It also helps organizations to prepare for disruptive events and it is a comprehensive set of measures and procedures put into place within an organization to ensure that essential, mission critical resources and infrastructures are maintained or backed up by alternatives during various stages of a disaster.

This was revealed at a media conference convened to brief journalists on a special programme launched by Biz Bay Lanka Co. to introduce modern business continuity and disaster recovery plans among the local business community.

A two-day workshop will be conducted by a leading information security consultant and lecturer Dr Rama K. Subramanium at Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo on August 9 and 10.

Dr Subramanium who made a brief visit to Sri Lanka told newsmen that appropriate business continuity plans vary from one enterprise to another, depending on variables such as the type of business, the processes involved, and the level of security needed.

Disaster recovery planning may be developed within an organization or purchased as a software application or a service, he said.
Dr Subramanium is India’s country representative at International Federation of Information Processing and is the Director of Valiant Technologies Pvt Ltd India.
