Authentic North Indian Cuisine from ‘SHEETAL SAMUDRA’

Experience a world of tastes - exotic and diverse, yet unique to the original flavour. The latest addition to Colombo's restaurant circuit is ‘Sheetal Samudra’, the authentic North Indian restaurant, owned and managed by PCH Holdings (Pvt) Ltd.

Opened just a few weeks ago, the whole ambiance of ‘Sheetal Samudra’ is designed in such a way that the customers will get a first hand experience of homely North Indian environs while enjoying the specialized authentic cuisine.

The restaurant boasts of a fine dining area, which has the capacity to entertain about 100 pax and an open-air section, which can accommodate about 30 pax. In addition there is ample parking, which is a rare facility within Colombo's dining circuit.

Welcoming the guests S.H.M. Rishan, Chairman PCH Holdings said, ‘At Sheetal Samudra we are trying to put the diverse North Indian culinary culture into a nutshell, without compromising quality with quantity. This restaurant is the newest addition to PCH Holdings business portfolio and we will aspire to be a trendsetter in town by delivering a fresh, authentic fine dining experience to our patrons’. Sheetal Samudra will be transformed into an exotic Indian oasis during Friday and Saturday nights when the enthralling sitar, tabla and flute players plunge into action with traditional Indian thala and ragas.

Describing the menu at ‘Sheetal Samudra’, Muneesh Sharma, who is also from India said, "In order to maintain the authentic Indian flavour, aroma and taste, we have brought down certain seasonings and flavouring items from India itself. Some of the favourites that are on offer are the conventional Indian beverages, starters - both vegetarian and non- vegetarian, seafood which includes traditional delicacies made out of prawns, lobster and cuttle fish, authentic breads and mouth-watering Indian desserts’.

Chef Sanjay Mahato from Mumbai, who has 14 years of culinary experience, especially in Indian cuisine, is heading the culinary department of the restaurant and has vowed to give an unforgettable dining experience to its patrons.

According to Chef Sanjay, some of the most preferred delicacies are, Sheetal Ki Khasiyat - his special coconut based drink with fresh coconut cream, condensed milk & dry fruits, Nariyal Tamater Ka Shorba an Indian soup with coconut and tomato simmered in bay leaf water, the unique Murg Lababdhar, the creamy malai chicken cooked in tandoor and simmered in cashew nut paste and Indian spices, the slightly spicy Subji Lajabab - seasonal vegetables and cottage cheese cooked in tomato and onion gravy and the very special dessert Chawal Ki Kheer - rice cooked in fresh milk topped with dry fruits and condensed milk. The prices of these items range from Rs. 225 upwards.

It would cost about Rs. 850/= net per person to have a sumptuous meal. ‘Sheetal Samudra’ also has an executive lunch package and quick takeways for the busy professional or the hectic housewife. In addition to in-house catering, ‘Sheetal Samudra’also undertakes catering for out-door events such as special functions, office parties, etc.
