Intl conference on soil and rock engineering

The Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society (SLGS) has organized the first Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society International Conference on Soil and Rock Engineering to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The conference will be held at Hotel Galadari from August 8 to 10. More than 100 eminent geotechnical engineering academics and practitioners from over 30 countries will present their latest finding through over 120 technical and research papers and 16 special lectures.

There will be special sessions on topics such as; ground improvement, landslides and slope stability, dams and embankments, unsaturated and problematic soils, shallow and pile foundations, geotechnical constructions, geo-environmental engineering that are of special interest to Sri Lanka.

The 30 sessions planned for the conference also include laboratory and field testing of soils, soil-structure interaction, analytical, numerical constitutive and physical modeling, soil dynamics and earthquake engineering and tunnelling. There will also be three pre-conference short courses on; Soil and Sediment Remediation Techniques, Design Construction and Monitoring of Landfills and Rock Slope Stability Analysis.

The Sri Lankan Geotechnical Society invites geotechnical professionals, engineers and scientists and others interested to register for the conference. Major construction companies in the civil engineering industry are invited to be part of this event by providing sponsorship.

Further details on the conference can be obtained from Co-chairs Prof. Athula Kulathilaka, University of Moratuwa, tel. 011 - 2650567 / 8 (Ext. 2003) or Kirithi Senanayake, National Building Research Organisation, tel. 011 - 2588946, mobile 0774147496.
