President demands Rs. 2 billion from Ranil

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe a Letter of Demand for Rs. 2 billion (Rs, 2,000,000,000) for allegedly defaming the President at a public rally in Kegalle recently.

According to President Rajapaksa's lawyer, the opposition leader’s statement was published in the Lankadeepa. The newspaper has also been jointly and severally held liable for a separate Rs. 2 billion. Mr. Wickremesinghe’s lawyers said they would be replying “appropriately”.
