Are you ready for Koluu?

By Marisa de Silva

Forty seven and still able to balance on those stiletto heels, Koluu’s feeling pretty again and is ready to take the stage once more! A riotous night of flamboyant costumes, personalities and colour - “I Feel Pretty” to be held at 7 p.m., on July 8, at the Cinnamon Grand will feature some of Sri Lanka’s ‘biggest’ names (no pun intended), all in the name of a worthy cause of course-- the Chitra Lane School for the Special Child.

The show will be a sort of parody about this eccentric woman who’s living a fantasy life whilst living in the real world but, refusing to accept that reality. “I’ll be bringing in a few of my real life situations to the show as well,” said Koluu laughingly adding, “but, it’s all funny situations, nothing serious or damaging to anyone but, if the cap fits, it fits…”

“It’s the ideal time for comedy as we’ve been seeing some heavy days of late. It’s good to forget your worries, even if it’s just momentarily,” he added.

Produced by Arc Worldwide Sri Lanka (a part of Leo Burnett Solutions) “I Feel Pretty’ was the brainchild of Ranil De Silva – Managing Director of Leo Burnett Solutions and close friend of Koluu. The proceeds will go towards the Chitra Lane School which is in dire need of funds at the moment. Both Ranil and Koluu used to organise fundraiser events for Chitra Lane when they were partners in the country’s first event management company ‘Celebration’, some 25 years ago.

“All guest performers taking part will be entwined in the plot some way or the other. For instance, even I will be dancing with Anushan and his dancers,” said Koluu quite gleefully. “We’re also hoping to get the “Golden Oldies’ like Angela Seneviratne, Geraldine Bandaranaike and Pauline, back onto the catwalk.” Jerome L. De Silva, Lou Ching Wong, Michael Holsinger, Shohan Chandiram, Tammy Flamer-Caldera, Indu Dharmasena and Ronnie Leitch are some of the other famous personalities joining the burlesque show next weekend. The costumes are being done by Lou Ching Wong and the set design by Sujeewa.
