Australia honours De Sayrah

Major General Michael Jeffery, Governor General of Australia and Chancellor of the Order of Australia has awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia to Harold de Sayrah for Service to the Community through Lions Australia and as a supporter of Humanitarian Aid Projects in Sri Lanka.

The Order of Australia instituted in 1975 by the Queen - head of the Commonwealth of Australia is the pre-eminent means by which Australia recognizes outstanding and meritorious service of its citizens.

Mr. De Sayrah had his education at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo and was actively involved in the OBU and the Old Josephians' Sports Club. He was on the Board of Governors of Bishop’s College, Colombo and Chairman of The Finance Houses Association of Sri Lanka.

Service to the community was foremost in his mind and through Lions Sri Lanka and Australia he has supported many humanitarian projects for the past 30 years. He migrated to Australia in 1988 and was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the State of New South Wales in 1993.
