Katunayake airport open round the clock

Katunayake airport will be operating 24 hours from today after two months of limited operation, although airline companies have not yet come to a decision to change their flight schedules.

Ports and Aviation Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Guneratne said the airport would definitely be open from July 1 while the Goverment has assured that airport security had been tightened.

“Following discussions with airport officials we decided to open the airport and all the counters will be open round the clock,” he said. A SriLankan airlines official said an official decision had not yet been made on changing flight operations.

A Qatar Airways spokesperson said the two daily flights at 8.55 a.m. and 7.25 p.m. would continue, adding that the Government’s decision would not have a great effect on the airline’s schedules.

A Singapore Airlines official said the airline would not be changing its current schedule till the end of October. A Malaysian Airlines spokesperson said the airline would continue operating in the morning until its head office orders any change.
