Killings continue in North and East

Eight persons were killed in four separate incidents in Jaffna and in Mavil Aru in Serunuwara on Friday and Saturday. Four fishermen were killed on Friday by unidentified persons while they were on their way to engage in fishing in the area.

Two fishermen who escaped claimed they had been shot by Sinhala speaking persons while the Defence Ministry said the four were killed by LTTE cadres who were escaping from Thoppigala.

The four bodies were brought to the Kantale hospital last evening. Two more persons were killed in Kokuvil and Nelliady in Jaffna yesterday while two more were killed in Nallur on Friday.

The Defence Ministry said the LTTE pistol gangs were responsible for all three incidents which took place within the high security zone
