Last minute try sees Thomians through

By Saif Izzadeen

The Thomians were given a scare, but, finally the Thomian grit prevailed as they managed to beat Wesley by 10 points ( two tries) to 8 points ( a try and a drop goal) in their inter-school rugby encounter at Londen Place, yesterday.

A Thomian player held by three Wesley defenders.

At half time it was Wesley who were leading at 8-5

After even exchanges prevailed in the initial stages of the game the Thomians went ahead in the 12th minute of the game through an unconverted try by fly half Sanka Tennekone. Wesley’s reply to this came through a try by their winger Zalih Jayah which also went unconverted.

Then Wesley forged ahead through a peach of a 35 metre drop goal by their centre Chanaka Peters.

In the second half the Thomians found their feet in the injury time when scrum half Esala Tennekone went over the defending line to plant the winning try.
