National Chamber seminar on “Understanding Labour Laws”

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) in association with the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) is organising a seminar on “Understanding Labour Laws” on June 26 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo.

The seminar comes at the request of a large number of employers who say they need to clarify many grey areas pertaining to personnel management issues. It would be focused on issues like payment of EPF and ETF for employees over 60 years of age; need for unions to give prior notice of strike actions; possibility of setting off leave against late attendances; disciplinary action against employees accused of misconduct and the actions to be taken against inefficient employees.

The seminar will be addressed by Ravi Pieris,Director General, Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (“Introduction to the legal framework of industrial relations”), Janaka Samarakone, Industrial Relations Advisor of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (“ Leave, Holidays & Overtime ”), Kanishka Weerasinghe, Deputy Director General of the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (“Misconduct and Disciplinary Procedures”) and W J L U Wijeweera, Commissioner of Labour (EPF), Department of Labour (“Superannuation benefits, EPF and Gratuity”),S D K Dharmasena- Asst. General Manager Member Accounts of the Employees Trust Fund Board (“Employee Trust Fund”), Leslie Devendra, Secretary General, SLNSS (“Labour Management Corporation: Trade Union Perspectives”) and Ubaya Dissanayake, General Manager- Organizational Development, South Asia Gateway Terminal (Pvt) Ltd (“Labour Management Corporation: Management Perspectives”).
