Sri Lankan participants clinch export orders at Chinese fair

The Sri Lanka – China Business Council (SLCHBC) members who participated at the Kunming Fair for the first time returned to Sri Lanka with a success story, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) said. The Council which functions under the aegis of the CCC took advantage of the opportunity offered by the Kunming Fair organizers not only to lead a delegation to Kunming Fair but also to showcase the Sri Lankan products.

The seven member delegation was led by Shamil Mendis, President, of SLCHBC and Deputy Chairman of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) and included Gamini Kumarage, Managing Director and Thusith Jayasuriya, Manager – Exports of Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Exports) Ltd, Mahinda Wanniarachchi and Mr. P Samantha Ratna Kumara, Directors of Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd, B M A Chinthaka Wegapitiya, Manager- Marketing, Laugfs Corporation (Coir) Limited, and J M Jauffer, Chairman, U S Shipping & Cargo Services (Pvt) Ltd.

The stalls were centrally located in a prime area within the International Pavilion which attracted hundreds of visitors. Though it was not a sector specific trade fair, the delegation was successful in establishing useful links, some of which even resulted in entering into agreements for export orders, the CCC said.

Chinthaka Wegapitiya, Marketing Manager, Laugfs Corporation (Coir) Ltd said he had received more than 40 enquiries and the most favoured products of the visitors to his stall were horticulture based products such as coco peat nursery pots/ poles etc.
Mahinda Wanniarachchi Director of Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd, the only tea exporter in the group, said he received seven positive responses and a confirmed order for 3000 kgs of tea bags.
