Sebs back to their glory Cager days

By Sanath Weerasuriya

St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa one of the pioneer schools of Basketball in Sri Lanka, has once again proved their mettle with two sterling performances in the past couple of weeks.

First they proved their class in the age group of Under 15 by winning the All Island "A" Division Trophy.

They beat Royal 56 -45, St. Thomas' Prep 28 -2, Maris Stella 79 -37, D. S. Senanayake 76 - 34, Colombo International at 89 - 83 and finally a glorious victory over Asian International School won them the crown at the finals with a score of 79 - 76 in their favour.

The final was held at the St. Joseph's College Courts, Maradana. They were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowed of Old Boys and parents who turned up in great numbers to cheer the students to victory.

The under 13 team of the College almost emulated their elder brothers when they ended Runners up to Maliyadewa College.

The progress shown in Basketball since the priests took-over the administration of the College in 2004, has been impressive. The under 13 team was the runner-up in 2004 while the under 15 team won the championship in 2005. St. Sebastian's College is building their Basketball spirit with a vision into the future. Under the patronage of Rev. Fr. B.A. Shiran and teacher-in-charge Mr. Mahesh Kulathilake, Priest-in-Charge Rev. Fr. Sudham and Coach Mr. Samson de Mel.
