No confidence motion on Keheliya by UNP

The UNP is planning to hand in a no-confidence motion against the Government’s defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella on the grounds he misled Parliament during the debate on the eviction of Tamil civilians from lodges in Colombo.

Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael Perera said his party may hand in the motion to the Speaker on Monday after which it has to be taken up for debate. Neither the JVP nor the TNA which staunchly opposed the eviction have decided if they will support the no-confidence or censure motion against the minister.

TNA Parliamentary group leader R.Sampanthan said the Party would decide on the matter once the motion is handed in and a date for the debate is fixed.
