Janaki’s new songs on TV

The leader of the music band ‘Janaki & the Lilacs’, visharad Janaki Edirisinghe's original songs are being broadcast by most of the leading radio channels now.

Janaki who has been singing Sinhalese, English, Hindi and Tamil songs belong to well known artistes with her band for a long time, but this is the first time she produced her original which is the result of requests made by her fans.

‘I believe that my voice has some sort of own identity though I used to sing other’s orginals with my band. This is the other reason, I thought of producing my own songs’ she added.

Some of Janaki's songs ‘Pera Athmayaka Wage’ (just like in a previous soul), ‘Kidureyage Sitha Ganna Kiyala’ (song made from "Sanda Kiduru", Sinhalese folk tale), ‘Batha Paganawa’- duet with Jagath Wickremasinghe, ‘Maga Bala Sitiya’ (waiting for the lover) and ‘Sandawanthiya’-duet with Rajive Sebestian, are becoming famous within a very short period.

This means Janaki's conclusion of having own identify of her voice is proved. Janaki's special talent of music is identified by her parents, when she was a child.

So they encouraged her for having musical instruments instead of toys and sending her to music classes in her childwood.

Hence at the age of five Janaki got Melodica from her parents as a birthday present and started to learn music. Today she is a multi-instrumentalist who has an ability of playing Piano (got through Trinity College, London Exams), Guitar, Violin, Drums and Keyboards.

In Eastern music (Ragadari) she studied up to Visharad level. So Janaki Edirisinghe is one of the youngest music Visharadas in Sri Lanka.

Janaki's original songs were written by famous lyricists. They are Visharada Nihal Gamhewa, Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe, Vernon Perera, Kalum Srimal, Wasantha Dukgannarala, Bandula Nanayakara and Bandara Ehaliyagoda. Well known musican Visharad Nihal Gamhewa, Nawarathne Gamage, Mahinda Bandara, Lal Thenabadu, Rohana Weerasinghe, H. M. Jayawardhane, Sureash Maliadde and Rajive Sebestian are responsible for melodies. All these songs recorded at Torana Recording Studio under the observation of recording engineer Geethadeva and Vidya. And digitally mastered at Torana by Ranga Diyabalnage.

Janaki is also a music teacher. She is also conducting music classes at her own institute ‘Lilacs institute of Music’ at Pannipitiya.
