You can’t be too smart in Cricket-- Lankans must go by their own experience.

Sri Lanka played the Aussie game without our seasoned campaigners Murali and Vaas, vesting responsibility on Dilhara Fernando as the only recognized fast bowler. Can Sri Lanka do it against the mighty Aussie attack? Being too much smart, we lost the game purposely. Murali and Vaas should have been set aside in a game against a country like Ireland, where we have the upper hand.

A country like Sri Lanka must go by experience and expertise against a mighty cricketing nation like Australia. That has been proved over the years not only at the present encounters at World Cup.

On the other hand Sri Lanka knows very well that our opening stands and middle order - both do not produce good partnerships on the whole, from the experience over the years during the last decade. The result was we had to burn the candle at both ends - batting and bowling drastically.

We should never set aside our experienced, seasoned campaigners purposely, unless of course there may be other motives in doing so – especially in crucial games. Let this be an eye opener for the future.
