Wishing our team every success at World Cup

By Janaki Gunasekera, Rajagiriya

Out of the 16 countries in this big event in the West Indies in 2007, Sri Lanka is the only Buddhist country. Just prior to the team’s departure to the West Indies our most venerable monks recited seth pirith, tied pirith nool and poured pirith pan for their success. This event was telecast in most TV channels and photographs appeared in the national newspapers.

Our captain, Mahela Jayawardana, had the good fortune of receiving a well balanced training in a Buddhist atmosphere at his alma mater, Nalanda College. This will stand him in good stead to lead our team in an unbiased manner. Ardent cricket fans of this country with hearts filled with metta, karuna, muditha and uppekka wish our team every success to win the World Cup.
