Cross, double cross and cross wired: That's what they are

By Rypvanwinkle

"Thaaththa," Bindu Udagedera asked, "what is all this cross talk about cross-overs?"
"Why, Bindu," Bindu's father Percy said, "now there are not only cross-overs but double crosses also..."
"Why is that, thaaththa?" Bindu wanted to know.

"Why, Bindu, one elephant who crossed over from the Green camp to the Blue camp has now done a double cross and rejoined the Greens..." Percy explained.
"So, the Greens must be very happy..." Bindu suggested.
"No," Percy said, "I wouldn't think so..."
"Why, thaaththa," Bindu was puzzled, "why shouldn't they be happy when someone who has deserted them wants to return to their camp?"

"Why, Bindu," Percy asked, "remember what happened when these hora ali left the Green Camp?"
"Well," Bindu said, "at first, there was some confusion whether they were hora ali or ali horu..."
"That maybe so," Percy agreed, "but the Green camp promptly wanted them sacked and their party membership suspended..."
"Yes," Bindu recalled, "but they couldn't get their act together properly even for that and the hora ali went to courts to stop that..."
"And they succeeded too..." Percy noted.

"But thaaththa," Bindu asked, "I thought the aliya who returned from the Blue camp was warmly welcomed by the Green Leader..."
"That aliya has said he made a mistake and that he was sorry for what he did..." Percy declared.
"But still, why shouldn't the Greens be unhappy if all the hora aliyas wanted to return?" Bindu wanted to know.
"Why, Bindu..." Percy said, "remember what the other Greens did soon after the hora ali left?"
"They appointed new organisers for the electorates that were represented by the hora aliyas..." Bindu recalled.
"Yes," Percy agreed, "and they also abolished the posts that were held by Uncle Karu who led the herd of hora ali..."
"Yes," Bindu said, "that was done too..."

"And," Percy continued, "those who remained in the Green camp were quick to fill the posts that were vacated by the ali who left..."
"That is true..." Bindu conceded.
"So, Bindu," Percy said, "just imagine what would happen now if all the hora ali were to return to the Green camp..."
"There would be a right royal mess with the hora ali wanting their positions in the party back and the Leader of the Greens not knowing what to do..." Bindu said.
"He rarely does..." Percy pointed out.

"But thaaththa", Bindu said, "some people are suggesting that this was all a trick..."
"What trick is that?" Percy wanted to know.
"They say that the aliya who returned was sent to the Blue camp to spy on them..." Bindu proposed.
"Why did he return, then?" Percy queried.

"He may have finished his job of creating confusion among the Blues, of course..." Bindu suggested.
"Then there is a spy in the Green camp as well," Percy said, "who is creating confusion in the Green camp and thereby indirectly helping the Blues..."
"Who is that, thaaththa?" Bindu was curious.
"Why, the Green Leader himself," Percy said, "and he has been doing that quite well for the last dozen years or so..."
Bindu wished he could disagree with that.
