X-ray machine disabled

The X-ray machine meant for disabled patients at the Kandy General Hospital has been out of order for the past six months causing inconvenience to hundreds of patients who needed to undergo tests using this machine. Repairs to the machine which is valued at Rs 12 million will cost around Rs 1.5 million, hospital sources said.

After the machine broke down, doctors at the hospital informed the administrative officer in charge of the equipment and the machine at the Kegalle hospital was brought to Kandy.

However this machine too is now non-functional.

Representations had been made to the Health Ministry regarding this issue, the sources said adding that two such machines were donated to the Trincomalee Hospital as part of tsunami aid but instead of using them to treat patients there who require such tests, patients are being referred to the Kandy hospital, adding to the problem.
