‘Dancing On Wheels’

The first ‘Training Camp’ for the differently abled soldiers and children to dance on wheel chairs was conducted by the Wheel Chair Dancesport Association (WCDS), Sri Lanka a subsidiary of the Ballroom Dancers Federation International Sri Lanka.

A three day Camp held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium brought the abled and the differently abled to a common platform twodancers from BDFI who were recently trained abroad, conducted this camp.

The closing ceremony was a colourful one, where Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Sports and Public Recreation graced the occasion.

Thirty soldiers and children from Sevana Lama Nivasa, Pita Kotte performed four items on wheel chairs with their standing partners from the Ballroom Dancers Federation International Sri Lanka.

The Wheel Chair Dancesport Association, Sri Lanka will be conducting classes for recreational activity and also will be training 6 couples for the forthcoming International Wheel Chair Dance Competition to be held in at the BDFI Dance Festival in July 2007.

The First ‘Dancing Wheel Chair’ arrived in Sri Lanka recently from China. This was donated by a Sri Lanka businessman living in Malaysia.
