TRO official and driver killed in blast

Three others injured

A Tamil Rehabilitation official and a driver were killed and three other officials injured last afternoon when the vehicle they were travelling in was caught in a claymore mine explosion in an uncleared area at Periyamadu in Mannar district.

A TRO official in Kilinochchi alleged that the claymore mine was activated by the deep penetration unit of the army.

But an Army spokesman denied they were operating in the area and said he could not comment further on the incident.

The injured are being treated at the Kilinochchi hospital.
