‘A Rhapsody in Colour’ : Malay festival at Bishop’s

'A Rhapsody in Colour'- Warisan Melayu 2, a rhythm of the ages, the centuries old traditional classical music and dance of the Malays will come alive at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on 18 March.

'A Rhapsody in Colour'- Warisan Melayu 2 is presented by the 85-years-old premier Malay organization of Sri Lanka - Sri Lanka Malay Association.

Warisan Melayu 2 brings the shades of colour in music and dance that is legendary in the east. The Malays who came to the shores of Sri Lanka four centuries ago have maintained their cultural identity. Yet few Sri Lankans have seen and heard the Rhythm of the 'Rongeng' or the graceful, colourful dances that accompany the lilting music of a long lost era. Today's Malay youth under the guidance of their elders are keeping the tradition of Malay music and dance culture alive Warisan Melayu 2 is a revival of the great cultural contribution of International Malay Song and Dance by the Malays of Sri Lanka, be fascinated by the authentic culture of Malays presented in shades of vibrant colours and distinctive tones. The show presents a feast of colour music and dancers, in the authentic costumes of the original festive routines of their forefathers.

More shades of colour will be added, with a special Indonesian Fashion Show, courtesy of The Indonesian Embassy in Sri Lanka.
The choreography for the show will be by the internationally famed Sri Lankan Malay dancers Rufin Saldin and Malrene Lantra. All aspects of the show are handled by Sri Lankan Malay professionals who are well established and recognized in the different fields - from State Décor, lighting, costume designing.

The make-up will be handled by the popular Sri Lankan Malay hair dresser and beautician Ramzi Rahman.

The best of a great culture will be presented Be there and enjoy an evening of "Colours In Harmony" nostalgic memories presented by Sri Lanka's Malays.
