Tame draw at Sara Stadium

The 32nd Battle of Kotte between St Thomas’ Kotte and Sri Jayawardenapura MMV concluded at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday ended in a tame draw with the match being called off early due to bad light.

The Thomians sent into bat ended on 212 for 9 from 69 overs of batting when play was abandoned at 4.15 p.m. due to bad light on day one. Resuming on their overnight score the Thomains went on to make 227.

Skipper Elvis Vonhagt who was unbeaten on 56 added a further 16 runs to his tally making 71 which had five boundaries and four towering sixes while left arm spinner Kasun Dilupa returned the best bowling figures of 4 for 74 for Sri Jayawardenapura MMV. Sri Jayawardenapura MMV in their turn lost wickets at regular intervals with none of the top order batsmen being able to make any impression and was struggling on 58 for 4 before allrounder Kasun Dilupa came to their rescue with a solid knock of 79 which included nine boundaries. Right arm pacie Riyaz Allang did the damage taking 4 for 46 and was supported by skipper Vonhagt who had three scalps.

Sri Jayawardenapura MMV 149 for 9 declared (Kasun Dilupa 79, Malitha Wickramasinghe 27.; Riyaz Allang 4 for 46, Elvis Vonhagt 3 for 49).
