WIS romp home

A fine all round performance by Vice-Captain Hussain Mansoor enabled Wycherley International School to trounce Colombo International School by six wickets and reclaim the Late Lalith Athulathmudali Trophy at the 12th Big Match played between the two schools at the NCC grounds this week.

CIS winning the toss elected to bat and reached 58 for 5 with difficulty, until a 54 run partnership between Stephan de Alwis (Best Batsman), and Shenuka Peiris brightened things up a bit, before finally being all out for 151 in 47.1 overs.

Wycherley started slowly and were 66 for 3 at the end of 30 overs. Then an entertaining partnership of 59 runs in 14 overs for the 4th wicket between Hussain Mansoor, 58 not out and Thasneem Rahuman, 24, brought them closer to the target. Then Hussain Mansoor with a performance which won him Best Bowler and Man of the Match, opened up and scored 26 runs in 2 overs to reach the target with four overs to spare.

WIS Captain Althas Cader was adjudged Best Fielder.
