Class of ’94 cricket sixes today

It’s ‘Big Match’ time again and the Royal – Thomian can be termed the biggest of them of all. The history between these two great institutions is filled with tradition. During many a Royal – Thomian, new traditions have been added. Which have remained through the years and made this encounter a truly unique and colorful one.

In the year 2005 we witnessed another novel tradition come into being : The Royal – Thomian Class of ’94 Softball Cricket Carnival. What is so special about this event is that this was the first and only one of its kind, where two individual batches from Royal College and S. Thomas’ College came together in the name of cricket and camaraderie. The inaugural tournament was won by the Royalists under able leadership of Gentle Giant ‘ Harith Jayasuriya, The second tournament was won by the Thomians under the leadership of Suresh ‘ Uchchi’ Wijesinghe. Score stands at one all. But true to the saying – It didn’t matter who the winner was, it was how the game was played and it can be safely said that this event epitomized the true spirit and essence of the Royal-Thomian encounter.

This year too the 3rd Annual Royal-Thomian Class of 94 Cricket Sixes will be held on the 4th of March from 10.00am onwards, at the CCC grounds. Batch mates are requested to register their team with their respective organizing committees. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.stcclassof94.com . A maximum of six players per team with six teams per school will be registered. The tournament will be held on a knock-out basis.

Tickets will be priced at Rs. 200.00 inclusive of lunch and beverages. Tickets will be sold at the grounds. The event will be held in a carnival atmosphere with papare bands, DJ, food stalls and much more. (HJ)
