Taste of Cinnamon in the forest

By Nedra Wickremesinghe

It was a launch of launches when Rohan Karr and his team laid out an unforgettable and extravagant event to re-brand Habarana Lodge as Cinnamon Lodge.

The 24-hour celebration kicked off with the special invitees boarding ‘The Viceroy’, at the Fort station on Saturday morning to make their journey to the hotel.

With Cinnamon Grand chefs and staff on board - from the very beginning of the journey to the very end, guests were pampered and lavished with champagne breakfast, martinis, snacks, lunch and more champagne. When the seven-hour journey came to an end at Palugasweva Station, the guests were whisked away to their final destination, the ‘Cinnamon Lodge’.

What awaited the guests here in this luxurious sanctuary was nothing but more indulgence. In keeping with the motto of Cinnamon Lodge ‘anything, anytime, anywhere’ – guests were treated to endless and delightful pleasures such as spa treatments, massages, facials, palm reading, and jumbo rides. What a way to unwind and relax – before they decked themselves in pearls and cufflinks to party all night.

The setting for the evening reception under the stars, by the lake was truly magical. White on white damask tablecloths, rose-bowl centre pieces and beautiful silver gave the touch of elegance, while the beautiful lighting provided the touch of romance.
The evening bash began with quiet cocktails, followed by a banquet fit for a king with food-stations spanning the entire periphery of the lawn laying on a glorious feast.

From gourmet delicacies such as pink salmon, caviar, oysters and escargots to succulent roast caveries with delicious accompaniments, to sea-food delights such as grilled lobster, crab, prawns and squid to pasta, and salads, guests were spoilt for choice.

A delicious array of desserts, fruits and the lavish selection of cheese and nuts followed.

Mysty the lively band provided all the entertainment for the guests to dance their night away. As all good things must come to an end, the 24-hour party ended the following day with a brunch – before most of the guests boarded the ‘Viceroy’ to return to Colombo.
