High School case dismissed

A petition challenging the annual general meeting of the Girls’ High School, Kandy and its development society accounts was dismissed by a Kandy court on a technical ground.

District Judge Bandula N. Karunaratne dismissed with costs the application filed by two members of the staff and a parent. The Judge in his order upheld Defence Counsel Harilal Wickramanayaka’s argument that the plaintiffs had not complied with Section 16 of the Civil Procedure Code, according to which the plaintiffs were required to give notice to the defendants. Mr. Wickramanayake argued that the case was filed to bring the principal of the school into disrepute.
