Royal’s second coming

A match saving stand of 132 for the third wicket between Bhanuka Rajapakse (72) and skipper Haroon Mowjood (65) saw Royal to safety in their Elephant Lemonade inter-school cricket encounter against St Joseph’s concluded at Darley Road yesterday. The Royalists who were back to the wall at the end of the first day’s play on 88 for 5 after the Josephians had declared their innings on 315 for 7 had a daunting task of saving the game when play began yesterday morning.

Resuming their innings on day two, Kavisha de Silva made a valiant effort to resurrect the Royal innings but Josephian left arm leggie Treshan Rajasooriya made them struggle with the late order batting crumbling. Kavisha who went short of partners contributed a breezy 68 in the Royal’s score of 155 while Treshan ended with top figures of 5 for 35.

Made to follow on the Royalists experienced an early set back losing three of their top batsmen with the score on 48 before the match saving stand between Rajapakse and Mowjood which frustrated the Josephians.
