Modern low grown CTC factory launched

Daduwangala Plantations (Pvt) Ltd recently initiated the construction of a CTC factory in the Sabaragamuwa Province which was ceremonially opened this week.

With Daduwangalawatta CTC factory coming on stream the quantum of CTC teas produced in the country will receive a much desired boost and increase the availability of quality CTC teas which would be most welcome by the trade in the country, tea broker Fores & Walker Ltd said. The factory is equipped with the latest state of the art machinery in the production of CTC teas and it is geared with computerized lathe machines to carry out chasing and milling operations.

“The tea trade would no doubt welcome the efforts by Daduwangala Plantations (Pvt) Ltd in undertaking such a large project which will help to partially fill a void in the availability of CTC teas in the country,” Forbes said.

Daduwangala Plantations (Pvt) Ltd currently operates two Orthodox tea factories - Daduwangalawatte and Parakaduwa -, with a combined annual production in excess of 2.9 m/kgs.

The Daduwangalawatta CTC factory initially commences operations with the capacity to handle 10,000 kgs of Green leaf per day and with work in hand being completed, it is expected that this factory will process 30,000 kgs of Green leaf on a daily basis, substantially increasing the national production of CTC teas and the overall production of Daduwangala Plantations (Pvt) Ltd thereby making a major contribution to the economy of the country and also providing employment to a large workforce from the village of Millavitiya, Kuruvita, Forbes said.
